BBC iPlayer Xbox 360 Launch Delayed
Written by 360 offers on November 30, 2009 – 1:46 pm -Xbox 360 iPlayer launch delayed
The launch of the BBC iPlayer on xbox 360 live has been delayed following Microsoft failing to reach a service agreement with the iPlayers providers the BBC.
The length of the delay at the moment is unknown and until both sides can come to an agreement the feature will not be added. The BBC wants the service to be provided free of charge as their costs are covered by the UK TV licence fees, however it appears that Microsoft want to charge for the service the same was as they do with additional download content on Xbox Live.
A spokesperson from the BBC says:
“This does not fit with the BBC’s model and Microsoft will not budge at the moment. It is really frustrating for those involved on the BBC side who want to make sure iPlayer is rolled out on as many popular entertainment platforms as possible.”
Given that the iPlayer is already available on PS3 and Wiii it seems that Microsoft are behind the times a little now in providing additional features by dragging their heals over this issue.
Should Microsoft charge for using the iPlayer? Feel free to add a comment below…..
