Will an Xbox 360 controller work on a PC?

This is a common question and the answer is very simple.

The wired version of the xbox 360 controller will work fine on a PC as a controller, all that may be needed is an additional driver available from Microsoft here.

If on the other hand you want to use the wireless xbox 360 controller with your pc you are going to need an extra bit of kit called an xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver for windows.
