Modern Warfare Review – Xbox 360
By Dean Grainger
Average rating (out of 10): 9.8
I was initially unsure whether to review MW2 given it’s history on Xbox 360, after all the game has sold in excess of 20 million copies worldwide to date. Adding in the fact that the game has taken up a considerable part of my gaming time over the past year or so I felt I may be a little biased but nether the less hear goes.
Graphics – 9
Whilst the graphics on MW2 are far from shabby they do not have the final finish compared to other games and especially when playing fast paced only matches there is an element of tearing in parts. Having said that, overall the graphics are very good, the scenery works very well in all the maps during online play and the offline single player graphics are equally impressive. Little detail such as the weather and how it changes the feel of the game and the different lighting depending on the area of the map you are in really give the game feel and character.
Audio – 10
Modern Warfare 2 really excels when it comes to audio. I play the game using a headset to get that more in depth feel as I find it helps me listen to the goings on around me and catch the odd enemy sneaking up on me some times. From the footsteps to the explosions the game developers have really though about everything. I also love the in game commentary that occurs.
Gameplay – 10
Gameplay is the best part of the game and what keeps me coming back for more. Whilst I cannot comment on the single player mode with much experience due to limited gameplay, I can thoroughly recommend the online mode. The game plays very well online and if you are a fan of first person shooters you will soon find yourself sat in front of your TV for hours upon end competing with other players. There are a variety of different games to play online, team matches, single man games, domination and a wide variety of maps some available as additional download content really make this game hard to beat.
Controls – 10
The controls are great although can take a bit of getting used to at first, especially if played on a high sensitivity setting. After a few hours of fast paced online play you will find yourself accustom to the controls well enough to complete with others. Movement works very well and aiming both from the hip and through the sights work very well.
Replay Value – 10
Given that the game has taken up hundreds of hours of my time over the past year or so it is safe to say that it rocks in terms of replay value, and that’s without even working through the single player campaign for more than a couple of hours so far. The online aspect of the game is immense and I can while away hours at a time playing online with friends and gamers I have met during online matches since playing.
If you have yet to buy this game then I suggest you get your copy now, although be prepared to put your other games to one side for the time being.
Overall – 9.8
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360 is available to buy from Amazon.
